Full Match Report

A rare away fixture for the Meon as we escaped the valley?s rainfall and visited Braishfield near Romsey. The pitch was picturesque with a bowl like outfield and undulating square. We were excited to have big Rupert trundling down the hill from 9ft high. We weren?t so excited by the toilet facilities that looked somewhat dated to say the least.

Captain won the toss again and Batted.

O & W Atkinson opened and got to work against some decent left and right arm bowling. The outfield played tricks on the running of 1s and 2s but chances were taken and the score climbed. The run rate remained at 5 an over and the score reached 136 before Ollie finally holed out on 88 to long on. Will was joined by Ali W who made a short burst 21 before succumbing to old age and retired hurt. Will and Jimmy made hay until Will was also caught on the ropes for a lovely 91. Jug avoidance!

Captain Andrew continued the attack and the score mounted above 270 before Jimmy retired again on 50*; protecting his average?

Mooro got a Ducky duck and Andrew called it a day with 277 on the board for just 3 wickets.

Tea consumed; we returned to the field ready to see Rupert skittle some stumps. And that he did with 2 wickets falling in the first 5 overs, with a sharp slip catch by Jimmy in the slips for one of them. Dave Rees on his season debut tempted the batsmen with a nice catch behind to Mooro and O Atkinson in the ring. Opening spells of 5 overs 2-12 and 2-13.

Josh Haslett into the fray, on a turning wicket, bowled a lovely 7 overs 1-9! Another good catch by Will this time. Leading wicket taker Sticko took another scalp of his spell and the opposition were 43-6 by drinks.

The opposition wicketkeeper was a chatty character, and successfully got under a few skins with his blocking and ongoing commentary. Aaron bowled tight for 4 overs but wicketless for 2 runs. Jimmy also 6 overs of tight bowling, 1-2. It took William?s wicket to wicket bowling to finally wrap friendly Mr Perrett on the pads and send him back to the rabbit hutch. With less than 5 overs to go we needed 2 wickets. Another LBW claimed in the penultimate over and then Will superbly bowled the remaining batsman.

A very good all-round performance at a lovely ground against a refreshingly social opposition.

Some say the captain is overperforming, others would say he is only just making up for last year!

Beers at the pub and then the Meoners retired to an Indian, run by a man by NANA.

Bring on next week, Home to the Mad Hatters.
