Full Match Report

On a beautiful, sunny, Sunday afternoon East Meon made the short trip across to Elsted. Well ten of our players did, Sticko merrily punched Elstead in Surrey into his sat nav and then wondered where we all were!
Elsted is a beauty of a ground with far ranging views over the North Downs. Will lost the toss and we were put into field for a 35 over game. Our bowling was pretty tight but one of their openers Archie Wadey proved tricky to remove. It wasn't chanceless, a few tricky catches went down but there were some excellent attacking shots in the mix with one enormous six onto the road as he went on to achieve his ton. Batsman came and went but we kept their total to a fairly modest 160.
Meon opened with Ali and Ollie. Fresh from his ton Ali was far more circumspect managing just 12 in the first 15 overs. Ollie soon got into his rhythm finishing on 64. A decent platform from which 160 should be pretty easy. But James never really looked set, no boundaries scored, played across the line out for 20. Vice Skipper DeWob out for a golden. Willy came in and steadied the innings but without much threat. Guesting for us Sam Howe managed to run himself out without facing. Matt Horn looked good briefly, an expansive four before he too was bowled. Sticko lasted but a few balls for one. Nick Sole golden, Josh two runs, Rupert golden to end the innings. Meon with a paltry 147.
Special mention to Archie. On top of the ton, Rupert's wicket also gifted him a five-for. A great day at the office for him.
Four losses in nine days for the Meon, that must be a record. Four days in the sun doing what we love is how your author views it.
Across the road to the Three Horseshoes we wandered to partake of an ale or two bathed in the evening sun with that beautiful vista filling our horizon. Win, lose, draw, Sundays don't get much better.
