East Meon Cricket Club

Player Profile for Chris Hollis (Widow T. Wanky)

Oh Hollis, Hollis, how you thrill me, ah-hah, Hollis, Hollis.
He can bat, he can bowl, having the time of his life
See that four, watch that six, digging the Batting Queen
Sunday evening and the sun is low
Will that short arse ever grow
Where they play the right cricket, getting in the swing
You come in to bat looking like the king
Anybody could be that guy
Night is young and they’re bowling pies
With a bit of slow to medium pace, everything is fine
You're in the mood for wine
And when you reach the crease…
He is the Batting Queen, old and gnarled, only seventy
The summer air was soft and warm
The feeling right, the Meon night
Did it's best to please us
And strolling round the Recreation Ground
We had a drink
And you
You talked of birds and booze and I
Smiled like Terry Nutkins
We had our chance
It was a fine and true romance
I can still recall our last summer
I still see it all
Walking back to the pavilion, yet another duck
Our last summer
Memories that remain
So I say…
Thank you for the cricket, the shots he’s playing
Thanks for all the joy they're bringing
Who can live without it, I ask in all honesty
What would life be?
Without a six or a four what are we?
So I thank Hollis for the cricket
For giving it to me
